Your bed frame sets the tone for the whole bedroom. It's usually the biggest piece in the room, so its size, height and style shape how the space looks and feels.
This category includes platform beds, upholstered beds, metal and wooden frames, beds with built-in storage, daybeds and kids' beds, in sizes from twin to California king.
Check the outside dimensions, not just the mattress size. Headboards, footboards and side rails can add several inches, which matters in a smaller room. Leave at least 24 to 30 inches of walking space around the sides and foot of the bed. Our free bed size calculator shows which bed sizes fit your room.
Think about height. A taller bed is easier to get in and out of and leaves room for storage boxes underneath. A low platform bed gives a modern, open feel and suits rooms with low ceilings. Storage beds with drawers or lift-up bases are great in small bedrooms.
Platform beds usually don't need a box spring, but check the slat spacing, since many mattress warranties require slats no more than about 3 inches apart. Assembly details are listed on each product page.
