Compact welders, helmets, gloves and welding accessories
Welding opens up a whole range of projects, from repairing a broken gate or trailer to building metal furniture and garden pieces. Today's compact welders are lighter and easier to start with than ever.
This category includes portable welding machines, auto-darkening welding helmets, heavy-duty gloves, magnetic clamps and angle holders, welding carts and other accessories.
If you're new to welding, a small flux-core welder is a common starting point. It doesn't need a separate gas bottle and works well for light steel repairs outdoors. MIG welding with gas gives cleaner welds on thin metal, while stick welding handles thicker, dirtier material. Check the input voltage: many compact units run on a standard household outlet, while larger machines need a dedicated circuit.
Never weld without proper protection. An auto-darkening helmet with the right shade rating, leather gloves, long sleeves and closed shoes are essential. Weld in a ventilated space, clear away anything flammable, and keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Taking a short beginner class is one of the best investments you can make.
