String and fairy lights for patios, bedrooms and celebrations
Few things change the mood of a space as quickly as string lights. A few strands over a patio turn it into somewhere you want to sit after dark, and fairy lights in a bedroom or around a mirror add a soft, cozy glow.
This category includes outdoor bistro lights with larger bulbs, thin copper-wire fairy lights, curtain lights for windows and backdrops, and solar-powered strings for gardens and fences with no outlet nearby.
Measure before you order. Run a piece of string along the route you want, including any drops and swags, and add a little extra to reach the power source. For a patio, zigzagging lights between posts or walls usually looks better than one straight line.
Check whether lights are rated for outdoor use (IP44 or higher) and whether multiple strands can be connected end to end. Plug-in lights give the most reliable brightness. Battery and USB strings are great indoors. Solar strings need a sunny spot for the panel. Warm white tends to look best outdoors, while colored and remote-controlled sets are fun for parties and holidays.
