The living room has to do a lot. It's where you relax, watch TV, have friends over, and in many homes, play with the kids and catch up on work too. The right furniture makes it comfortable for all of that without feeling crowded.
This category includes accent chairs and armchairs, TV stands and media consoles, bookcases and storage cabinets, benches, ottomans, room dividers and other pieces that complete a living space.
Start with how you use the room. If it's mainly for TV, arrange seating to face the screen at a comfortable distance. If it's for conversation, group chairs and the sofa so people can talk without raising their voices, ideally within about 8 to 10 feet of each other.

Choose a TV stand that's a little wider than the TV, and closed storage if you'd rather hide cables and clutter.
