Solar path lights, garden lamps and wall lights, no wiring needed
Solar lights are the easiest way to add light outside. There's no wiring, no electrician and no running cost. Push them into the ground or screw them to a fence, and they charge in the sun and switch on by themselves at dusk.

Placement is everything with solar. The panel needs direct sunlight, ideally six hours or more a day. Under a tree, against a north-facing wall or on a covered porch, the battery won't charge fully and the light will be dim or switch off early.
Expect less run time in winter, when days are short and the sun is low. It also helps to wipe the panels clean every few weeks, because dust and pollen cut charging. Batteries in solar lights often last one to three years and can usually be replaced. Check the IP rating, lumens and stated run time on each listing to compare models.
