About Chandeliers

A chandelier is usually the first thing people notice when they walk into a dining room or entryway. Choose well and it pulls the whole space together; choose the wrong size and it either disappears or crowds the room.

This category includes modern linear and ring chandeliers, crystal designs, farmhouse and wood-bead styles, and industrial metal fixtures. Many work with dimmable bulbs, so you can turn them down for a relaxed dinner.

Getting the size right is easier than it sounds. Over a dining table, the chandelier should be about half to two-thirds the width of the table, and hang roughly 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop. In an entryway or open room, add the room's length and width in feet and use that total in inches as a starting diameter. Our free chandelier size calculator does the math for you and suggests a hanging height too.

Check the total weight and the length of the chain or rod before ordering. Heavier fixtures may need a ceiling box rated for the weight, and installation is best done by an electrician.
